Jon Measures appreciation post

This one of my favorite pieces by artist, Jon Measures. I encourage everyone who is in digital art to check out his website, which is on the right of my homepage. He is most known for his digital work which he also paints on. It could be described as cubism, although he doesn't describe himself as one. He thinks of his work as snippets of time in an urban setting. I like to think of it as walking through the city and taking several pictures. At the final work of art is all of them molding together into a shape, like the above image. Very interesting to look at.

Dan Quintana appreciation post

you would think, at first glance, that these beautiful images have been photoshopped..but they are actually oil paintings by artist, Dan Quintana. Ever since I saw him on instagram i've been obsessed with him. I love his style and subject matter. Being a portrait artist myself, and a fan of fantasy, I am in awe of his work.

The most handsome drowned man in the world'

THIS...is my final for photoshop class. It is suppose to be my rendition of the story 'the most handsome drowned man in the world'. I wasn't too familiar with photoshop going into this class, but I kind of surprised myself with this last assignment. It came out better than I expected it to. i feel like I'm much more confident in working with photoshop now, especially when it comes to masking objects. but the whole printing situation kind of ruined the class for me, I found it remarkably boring but I am taking a print production class next semester so I think i better get used to it.

illustrator packaging design

This was for my packaging design assignment for my illustrator class.  I chose to make a box for paintbrushes. I'm not particularly fond of the design, but I think it was a good experience to do the act of printing it out and folding it up. It came out a little flimsy but it was my first mock up.

Illustrator cityscape

This cityscape was one of my finals for my adobe illustrator class. It took a long time but I think it came out pretty good. I have a huge print of this hanging up in my room now. the assignment was suppose to be about perspective, and since I already took a class in perspective, this assignment was relatively easy for me.

illustrator symbols

These are symbol designs for my adobe illustrator class at OCC. The assignment was to create symbols for different things e.g. car, phone, smoking, no smoking, food and drink, etc. This assignment helped me think minimally and simplistically. 'The best symbols are usually the simplest, which everyone can understand easily'.

illustrator characters

These are from a assignment in Illustrator and computer graphics, at OCC. This is the first assignment I had and my first go at Adobe illustrator. The assignment is called character illustrations. The top left is called 'fanny the fish girl', the top right is 'couch potato', the bottom left is 'gamer boy' and the last one was optional, I chose 'ruby, the next chicken in line' (to get slaughtered).

A Little about Photographer Martin Schoeller

The artist Martin Schoeller is responsible for some of the most famous portrait photographs today. Most are just close ups of the face, plain and simple, but I think that's what makes him so special. He can take a a photo of someones face and add so much life and story behind it. There's more skill to his work than first meets the eye.
I chose this particular photographer as my subject because I am a portrait artist and mainly draw realistic portraits with graphite and charcoal. I use Schoeller's photographs for reference images. I had no Idea I was using his imagery until I looked him up. He is responsible for thousands of portraits of mostly famous indivuals.
His portraits are on the cover of several magazines and used around the world. He is one of the best.

MY view of Orange County

The above image, in my opinion, is a great depiction of Orange county. Palm trees are everywhere. I grew up in a place where there aren't any and when I moved here it was immediately apparent that they are everywhere around Orange County. When I think of the OC, I think of Palm trees.
Of Course, no list of pictures describing orange county could be complete without including one of the beach. The beach and surfer culture are such a huge part of what make up Orange County. People come from all around to come to the beaches of Orange county. The surfer culture has also been instrumental in the shaping of orange county's culture.
I took this pic of an expensive sport's car, because like palm trees, car dealerships seem to sprout up everywhere. To me, someone who didn't grow up in the area, sights like this is what defines this area for me. It also reflects upon the wealth of this area,
Healthy food seems to be a trend in Orange county...and for the most part, only orange county. I've been many other places and California, and OC in particular, seem to be moving in a vegan/vegetarian/organic direction. In my opinion, this is an amazing thing for Orange county to be known for and I wished it was like this in more places. I feel lucky to be able to have so many healthy options of food.
Like organic and healthy foods, the gym life seems to be integrated into the lifestyle of OC. there are as many gyms as there are starbucks. It seems unusual for someone living here to be out of shape and pale, as opposed to muscular and tan and knows how to surf.

DMAD photoshop Assignment

The top image was published in June, 2008 to the news site of the Iranian revolutionary guard. It then spread to several news sites around America as a demonstration of the missile testing of Iran. It wasn't until later that it was discovered to have been altered using photoshop. Only three missiles successfully launched, the fourth was masked for publication
